Level 2 EV Chargers
Level 2 EV Chargers typically operate at 240V with a power output ranging from about 3.3 kW to 19.2 kW. They operate with AC power, which means Alternating Current—the flow of electricity changes direction periodically.
These chargers are ideal for parking garages, workplaces, restaurants, and retail locations where vehicles can park for a few hours. They usually add anywhere between 10 to 60 miles of range per hour, depending on power output. Level 2 chargers offer a more affordable setup and lower operational costs.
Level 3 (DCFC) EV Chargers
Level 3 or DCFC chargers generally provide DC power directly to the battery at power levels starting around 50 kW and going up to 350 kW in the most powerful stations. The charging station itself handles AC-to-DC conversion.
These chargers are ideal for highway corridors where rapid charging during longer trips is essential or for cmmercial fleets where operators may need quick turnaround times to keep vehicles operational. They can add anywhere from ~100 miles of range in 30 minutes to hundreds of miles in under 30 minutes
